Bhitarkanika is the second largest mangrove ecosystem in India with a network of creeks and canals where the water comes from the rivers like Brahmani and Baitarani. It is about 4 hours drive from Bhubaneshwar in Orissa. It is known for its huge Salt Water Crocodiles, and I saw some real huge ones while cruising in the local boats! Also has a large number of Kingfishers here. My bird targets though were the Mangrove Pitta and the Pin Striped Tit Babbler. I was also fortunate to find the Jungle cats and the Leopard cat! Met with a cute Jackal family too while searching for the cats. Also a rare surprise was a pair of mating Porcupines deep in the forest at night! The Indian Chameleon was just a sight to behold. Lastly, took some close up shots of the Green Vine Snake and the venomous Red-tailed Pit Viper.
