Went for my first, and now definitely not the last, visit to Nagaland. From Dimapur airport, Kohima the capital is about 2 hours drive. From Kohima, it is about half an hour to Khonoma, a birder’s paradise. Surrounded by lush green hills and valleys all around with colorful trees of wild cherry and wild apple, this place has some great birds. One of the few places in Nagaland where hunting is almost negligible. The history though carries its baggage, and the birds have become very wary of humans, and photographing them is not easy. Khonoma is known for its Laughing Thrushes and Naga Wren Babbler. I got some record shots of 3 new species of laughing thrushes and got the Naga Wren Babbler while it was making its Naga war cry! Apart from them, got good shots of Rufous-crowned Prinia, Silver-eared Mesia, Mountain Bamboo Partridge, Crested Finchbill, Chestnut-vented Nuthatch etc. The homestay in the middle of the forests was another big delight here!
