Karnataka is a large state and with a lot of wildlife habitats diversity.
The capital Bangalore itself has a variety of birding habitats in the outskirts - though the development poses a genuine and immediate threat to both the forest areas and the numerous lakes. My main target in Bangalore was the Blue Faced Malkoha (which I found near the Valley School area), and the Great Cormorant in Lal Baagh.
Hampi is known for its ancient monuments and huge boulders which also harbour a wide range of wildlife. It also has the famous Daroji Bear Sanctuary. Tawny-bellied Babbler, Blue Rock Thrush, Painted Spurfowl, Yellow Throated Bulbul, Indian Eagle Owl together with the Grey Mongoose, Squirrels, Bears and Monkeys are the great sightings I had here, which included an early morning trek in complete darkness up the boulders to see the famous Bulbul here, together with the enchanting monuments!
