North-East has much to offer that frequency of my visits there keeps increasing! Kaziranga had been on list for long time and finally made it there along with my wife. It has 4 different zones. I visited the Central (most popular one for tigers), the Western, and the Burha Pahad. I liked the Western and Burha Pahad zones a bit more for its natural beauty and diversity of wildlife. Rhinoceros are the obvious big attraction here but the birds like Green-billed Malkoha, Pied Kingfisher, Spot-billed Pelican, Northern Lapwing, Grey-headed Lapwing, Great Hornbill, Swamp Francolin, Common Sniper, Dusky Eagle Owl, Brown Fish Owl are in aplenty here too. Then there are other wildlife species like Smooth Coated Otters, Capped Langurs, Assam Macaque, Gecko, Wild Buffalos and Elephants! Together with them all the natural beauty of the place is just amazing and one of the best “value for money” national parks to visit - though I think they can start the morning safaris a bit earlier. (PS: Don’t go expecting to see a tiger…even with my lucky charm I did not see in this first visit of mine..but I shall be back!).
Kaziranga is always a delight for photographers! This time though two bad lucks happened! I again missed the Golden tiger (though got to see a tiger from far, far away!), and my camera autofocus stopped working! Nevertheless, got some great shots of Rhinos, Greater Adjutant, Slender Billed Vulture, Serpent Eagle, Albino Deer, Swamp Deer, Spotted Pond Turtle.
