Meghalaya literally means “abode of the clouds”. It is a beautiful state with some of the most wonderful waterfalls, lakes and mountains! I was so mesmerised by the natural beauty that I forgot all about the wildlife side on this visit! I visited the lovely Umiam Lake by sunset and the enchanting Nohkalikai waterfall (which has a very sad folklore behind it about a mother jumping to death here after accidentally been fed her child’s meat by her drunkard husband and step-father of the child); trekked to the man-nature synergistic marvel of Double Decker Root Bridge; and then finally to the cleanest river in India at Dawki (on Bangladesh border). Also visited the cleanest village in Asia nearby to Dawki and the mind-boggling boulder standing for centuries on a very small support!
