Newton’s 3 Laws of Motion Finally Proven in a Bird’s World too! Do not miss to read the most important breakthrough research done in wildlife science!

In a wonderful discovery made by few science-oriented birders, Newton’s 3 Laws have been proven to be true for birds too. After several years of collecting and analysing data, the scientific birders team finally managed to get 3 very specific data points from the forests that changed their lives (they called it a “lifer”) over the past 3 months.

1. 1st Law: An object remains at rest or in uniform motion in a straight line unless acted upon by an external force. In the wild forests of Kaziranga, 3 birds were sitting in a straight line on a branch. 2 Scarlet Minivets and one Lesser Racket-Tailed Drongo. The scientists waited. Nothing happened. Everything was at rest in a straight line. Then the drongo looked towards the right side at one of the minivets. Feeling this embarrassing external force of the drongo’s gaze, the minivet immediately went into action, thus proving Newton’s first law!

2. 2nd Law: The force acting on an object is equal to the product of its mass and acceleration This was a difficult law to prove. So the ingenuous scientist birders agreed on a hypothesis that if a bird of average mass can provide enough acceleration by its wings to remain floating and stationary at one place to overcome the gravitational force, then the law can be proven. After roaming all around the country, they landed in Mangalore and focused on the Grey-bellied Cuckoos there. All of them kept flying away and the scientists were getting disappointed - till one of them started floating above the branch! Second law was proven too!

3. 3rd Law: For every action in nature, there is an equal and opposite reaction. The scientists agreed that this experiment should not be carried between birds of different families as some reactions between them would be biased. They also excluded the birds of the same species because inherent genetic factors may influence the reactions. Finally it was agreed that members of the same family, like 2 different bulbul species, would be ideal.

They reached the borders of Assam in Karimganj district and set up camp there for the last part of their experiment. They waited and waited. Birds of different families came together, birds of same species came together. Sometimes birds of same family too came but data was not conclusive. Finally, it happened. The Black-crested Bulbul and the Cachar Bulbul came together. When one Bulbul looked the other way, the other one equally looked in the opposite direction! Third law was solved too!

Newton’s apples might have helped him centuries ago, but it was finally the birds that convinced the world about Newton’s laws. The scientists have been recommended for the Noble…sorry Ig-Noble prize in Natural Physics category!
