Uttaranchal is not only the Land of Gods but Land of Divine Birds and Wildlife too! Having a home in the hills on this state has allowed me to explore many areas, and many many more are still to be seen. Sattal, very near to Bhimtaal is the “hub” from where the “spokes” reach out to other places like Almora and vicinity, Manila, Kaladhungi, Corbett, and Munsiyari (Chopta and Mandal have covered in another section). From dense forests to snow clad mountains to rolling meadows to almost manicured like trees on hillocks to small rivers - this state has it all!

At Sattal, there is a beautiful lake surrounded by thick pine and oak forests. Walking on the meandering roads or sitting in the forest near small water pools, I could find plenty of birds. Like the Common Green Magpie, Speckled Piculet, Orange-bellied Leafbird, Long-tailed Broadbill, Greater Yellownape, Asian Emerald Dove, Blue-winged Minla, Indian Blue Robin, Ultra-marine Flycatcher, Chestnut-tailed Starling, Great Barbet, Pied Thrush, Red-billed Leiothrix, White-throated Fantail, Small Niltava, Mountain Hawk Eagle.
